When I'm in the car, and someone starts talking, my first reaction is to turn the radio down. Why? Because I want to hear them plainly and clearly. When I'm at home and someone in the room starts talking, my first reaction is to face them and turn the tv down... why? Because I want to hear them. When we're out somewhere loud, we usually wait until a quiet period to talk instead of trying to yell over the noise.... When is the last time you turned everything off and just listened to the silence? Or stepped outside and listened to the rhythm of the world that surrounds you. If we constantly bombard our hears, mind, and hearts with noise, how is it possible to hear God when He speaks to us? Will He be drowned out by the music, tv, or whatever other noise (internal or external) that is constantly stimulating our senses? I urge you to turn everything off and listen. To just whatever.... and let me know what you hear.
I did. And I heard "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10)
This verse isn't even talking about quiet time. To me, it's saying: Stop running around like an ant whose mound has been destroyed.... Trust me. Know that I am in control.
Pretty good stuff if you ask me!!
